Note: This position requires travel to Pool Board meetings with varying locations quarterly and periodic visits to our headquarters in Boca Raton.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Responsible for complex financial, insurance and reinsurance analysis, to ensure the most efficient and cost- effective operation of the residual market reinsurance pooling mechanisms.  Provides advice, consultation, and assistance to various functional units and departments, on an as needed basis.  Acts as subject matter expert (SME) on residual market and reinsurance pool matters.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Performs complex insurance, financial or risk analysis, in response to needs identified by management, governing boards or committees.   Responsible for:

  • Effective implementation and application of the National Workers Compensation Reinsurance Association (NWCRA) Financial Credit Policy to participating reinsurers.
  • Preparation of Proof of Claim filings on behalf of reinsurance pools.
  • Managing the excess of loss reinsurance contracts and related reporting requirements on behalf of reinsurance pools. 
  • Analyzing and approving/disapproving petitions for insurance carrier compensaton, reimbursement for approved expenses  and requests for indemnification of legal fees and expenses.
  • Revisions to Workers Compensation Insurance manual on an annual basis, or as needed. Providing advanced technical consultation, subject matter expertise, and technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Take on special projects of an administrative, financial, and technical nature.

Liaisons with NWCRA Board of Directors and Committees. Duties include:

  • Assisting with the coordination of activities/meetings
  • Preparing agenda content, minutes, and related reports
  • Assisting in the development and compilation of Board exhibits, communications, and presentations.
  • Completes ad-hoc, or as needed cross-functional/departmental consultation and assistance, direction, or education as needed. Provides analysis of data as required or needed.

WHAT IT TAKES:

  • Bachelors degree in Insurance, Finance, Accounting or Business major, preferred: and a minimum of 5 years financial analysis, including insurance and/or reinsurance experience, with understanding of statutory insurance accounting practices preferred.
  • Basic understanding of insurance company operations and accounting practices.
  • Excellent analytical and interpretive skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; along with the ability to effectively write documents, as well as the ability to conduct and prepare public presentations.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of workers’ compensation resources, manuals, and concepts.
  • Problem solving and collaborative skills.
  • Computer skills, software knowledge and experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Windows.  Knowledge of database structures.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU A MORE VIABLE CANDIDATE:

  • Certified Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Reinsurance, (ARe), or other related insurance designations preferred
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent graduate degree 
  • Basic understanding of insurance accounting practices and expert knowledge of reinsurance functions.
  • Knowledge of the workers compensation policy rules and regulations and/or the workers compensation residual market mechanism  
  • Basic knowledge of query functions in PL/SQL and Mongo DB. Experience with Power BI
