WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THE ROLE:

Interns work on tasks similar to those of Assistant Actuarial Analysts. They analyze data and produce exhibits to display their results. This work is usually done with a more senior actuary providing guidance. A key part of success for an intern is working successfully as part of a team with full-time employees. Interns are expected to follow instructions, but also to question why we do things the way that we do.

It is especially impressive, but not required, when interns suggest ways in which we can improve our analytical approaches at NCCI. Interns assist with research projects as well as production. They gain broad exposure to what actuaries do at NCCI. They develop improved analytical skills and gain exposure to programming skills that they might not have encountered before.

WHAT YOU MUST BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or related area
  • Anticipated graduation of December 2025 - May 2026
  • One or more CAS exams, preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software applications, e.g. Excel, preferred.
  • Communication:
    • In writing and verbally -clearly and concisely, able to explain complex topics in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Customer Obsessed:
    • Includes our internal and external customers; following through on your words and actions with urgency; delivering high quality and high volume of work.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Ability to think critically, creatively, and innovatively, diving deep into details but also stepping back and seeing the big picture.
  • Accountability and Teamwork:
    • Holding oneself accountable; keeping projects moving forward; working collaboratively across teams and departments; managing priorities and knowing when to adapt to changing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Technical knowledge:
    • Basic knowledge of insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts, good data analysis skills, and demonstration of exam progress

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU:
